Sir (Dr) Dozie Lawrence Okwuosah retired as Director of Risk Management in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2018.  A 1981 graduate of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) started my banking career started with UBA Plc in 1983 as a Graduate Officer in the Lagos Central Branch, Broad Street, Lagos.

After UBA, moved to the then Commercial Bank Credit Lyonnaise Nigeria (CBCLN) as an Assistant Cash Manager , a position I held for just seven months before joining the CBN as a Manager in 1993.

My career in the Central Bank of Nigeria began in the Banking Supervision Department, Abuja as a Bank Examiner in April 1993. Was appointed Assistant Director in 2010 and posted as a pioneer staff to the newly created Risk Management Department as Head of Operational Risk Management & Business Continuity Management Division. From where I retired from the service of the CBN as a Director on 1st June, 2018., having attained the enviable position of Director.

My leadership style and strong believe in team work enabled me to successfully complete several challenging tasks amongst which were:

1. Coordinating the development and implementation of the CBN Credit Risk Management System (CRMS). A database software that was developed to checkmate the activities of delinquent borrowers in the Nigerian financial system.

2. Facilitating the Licensing of the first three Credit Bureaus in Nigeria viz: (XDS, CR Services & Credit Registry);

3. Participating in the CBN century change committee that mapped out and implemented strategies that ensured all hardware and software in CBN were year 2000 compliant before June 1999;

4. Participating as a member of the CBN job evaluation/re-organization team in 2001 working with Accenture;

5. Membership of the CBN/NDIC team that went to India to develop electronic bank returns rendition systems known as BDE/eFASS;

7. Coordinating and facilitating workshops on the Bank Data Entry BDE/eFASS organized by the CBN/NDIC for all banks to acquaint them with the computerized system of rendering CBN/NDIC monthly returns;

8. Leading the World Bank/CBN MSME project committee on a working and study tour to Egypt, Malaysia, Turkey, South Africa, London and USA and thereafter developing the guidelines for licensing and regulation of private sector run Credit Bureaus in Nigeria. (CRMS);

9. Coordinating and facilitating the Credit Risk Management System Workshop for all banks in Nigeria to sensitise them on the modus operandi of the CBN Credit Bureau. (CRMS)

10. Membership of the CBN code of business ethics and conduct design and implementation committee;

11. Leading the team that split staff of Banking Supervision Department into two departments- Financial Policy and Regulation Department and Banking Supervision Department.

12. Working with the Special Risk Adviser to the CBN Governor to set up and head-hunt pioneer staff of Risk management Department;

13 Coordinating the initial Risk Assessment Workshops aimed at identifying Risk and develop controls across all processes in the CBN;

14. Leading the team that produced and the CBN Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and Risk Management Policies;

15. Leading the team that produced and implemented Key Risk Management Reporting tools and templates in the CBN including Incident Reporting Template, Risk Dashboard, Operational Risk Reporting template; and

16. Coordinating the establishment and implementation of Risk Champions Charter and activities of the Risk Champions at all branches of CBN.

OTHER CHALLENGING TASKS
Aside the above, I was able to tackle other challenging social development tasks in my private capacity as:

1. Vice Chairman of the Abuja Archdiocese protocol committee on Pope John Paul 11 when he visited Nigeria in March 1998;

2. Chairman, fund raising committee that generated N986m used for the construction of Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church Area 3 , Abuja;

3. Coordinated fund raising that generated over N10m that started the building of St Patrick’s Catholic Church Odekpe, Ogbaru LGA Anambra State Nigeria. (His Home Town)

4. While in service, I was able to give jobs opportunities to more than 50 young graduates in banking and government parastatals.

I currently manage a consultancy firm – DNC INVESTMENTS LTD whose business includes:

Secondly, after the death of his beloved daughter, I registered an NGO- BARR CHIKA RITA OKWUOSAH FOUNDATION (BCROF) – aimed at immortalizing her with the objectives of:-

Advancing the health and well-being of women and girls especially those with Brain Tumor:

Supporting female startup in beauty and fashion design and assist them to access capital; and

Promoting the right of girls and women to quality education and economic development.

Chief Preye Ogriki is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; Associate Member, the Nigerian Institute of Management; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Honorary Senior Member, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

He has over 35 years’ un-broken cognate experience spanning Civil Service, Commercial Banking, Public Service, Mortgage Banking, Microfinance and Business Consultancy; having served as Executive Director (Corporate and Investment Banking), Fortune International Bank Plc. Before this, he held various Executive Management positions in Allstates Trust Bank Plc including Financial Controller; Head, Credit Risk Management and Group Head, Northern Operations and Controller – Head Office Operations.

He was The Pioneer Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning, Government of Bayelsa State of Nigeria in the year 1999 at the commencement of the democratic governance under the present dispensation. Subsequently, he retired from his Commercial Banking career and led the Turn-around Mortgage Team which successfully recapitalized the once moribund Resort Savings and Loans Limited (Mortgage Bankers) in Lagos in 2006. He later floated Trans Atlantic Mortgage Bank Limited in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government in Yenagoa which he led for 8 years as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

Chief Ogriki is presently self-employed as a Mortgage Broker and Financial Consultant.

Mrs Annie Okwuosah is a seasoned Management Executive and an Alumnus of the IMT Enugu, and Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

She is an Assistant Director, and head of the Federal Capital Territory Branch of The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.

She is a Chartered Mediator, A Fellow of The African Business School, and a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Administration.

Having served on the Board of the Medical Rehabilitation Centre, she has developed a passion for humanitarian interventions, and is delighted to be part of this noble team.
