BCROF Successfully Trained 15 Women On Bag And Shoe Making In Abuja

As part of activities to empower young women and support female startups the Barrister Chika Rita Okwuosah Foundation ( BCROF) has organised a 2-weeks skill-acquisition and empowerment programme for 15 women on shoe and bag making.

The primary objective of the skill development training is to empower the trainees to increase their productivity.

This is first of its kind for BCROF which was launched in Abuja, in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Dozie Okwuosah only child and daughter, Barr. Chika Okwuosah, who died as a result of complications arising from brain tumor.

One of the objective of the foundation was also to advance the health and well-being of women and girls, as well as increase knowledge about their reproductive health, modes of early detection, access to treatment and patients’ rights.

Speaking to newsmen the CEO of BCROF foundation, Mrs Nonye Okwuosah commended the BOT for their support towards the actualization of the empowerment programme.

“Since its chika’s dream, I suggested the idea to the BOT, that we should train some young women,the trainees were so eager ,so passionate,they were told to apply,some board members interviewed them,some people applied from Enugu, Abeokuta, and other part of the country.”

“I have advised the girls not to drop the ideas,because practicing makes perfect,there is no job in the country, so if they continue in this craft i believe they will go far, we have the plan to take the training to Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State.”

Some of the trainees who spoke on the occasion commended the foundation for the empowerment programme, Onunwa Joy Chinenye said the training was really helpful, I learnt how to make shoes and bags,like in making shoes there are some materials you need,shoe gum,fiber etc.

‘I intend to make use of the skill i learnt,when i go back to school i will make shoes and bags for other students in my school,to earn extra cash when we resume”, said Chinenye.

Another trainee said” a house wife, Adaobi Meka said she got involve because shoe and bag making was her passion.

“I have always wanted to start something on my own,to be self employed,i have the intention of starting something on my own,the training has been awesome, a wonderful experience for me and the others too.”

BCROF Chairman, Sir Dozie Okwuosah said the foundation was taking the programme to the village to empower some widow, with the support of the foundation.

He called for support and donation from well meaning Nigerians who believe in the empowerment of the less privileged, especially young girls and women in the society. Dr Okwusah commended those who had made the training possible.

Highlight of the event include presentation of certificate of completion to the trainees, cash and gift donation. for outstanding performances as well cash presentation to all trainees.
